Lecturer position with emphasis on undergraduate instruction, Duke University Department of Psychology & Neuroscience

Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. The Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Duke University invites applications for a Lecturer position to begin July 2018.

This full-time regular-rank (non-tenure-track) position has a fixed-term appointment and is renewable. The position will have a primary focus on undergraduate instruction. The ideal candidate will already have a Ph.D. in Psychology and at least five years of experience teaching Psychology courses as the instructor of record. We seek a generalist who is comfortable and skilled teaching across the traditional areas of Psychology; for example, the ideal candidate might teach courses in Social, Developmental, and Clinical Psychology. Our preference is for someone with experience teaching large lecture courses (e.g., Social Psychology; Psychology of Consumers) as well as Research Methods and seminars that are more specialized. The ideal candidate will also have experience with academic advising, curriculum development, administering an undergraduate major, and university service.

The successful applicant will be offered an initial contract of three years that will be eligible for renewal. As a regular-rank position, the Lecturer will participate fully in departmental and university activities and the position allows for promotion to the Senior Lecturer position, without tenure. Renewal and promotion are contingent upon performance reviews, which will be based on a strong teaching record, successful academic advising, mentoring of undergraduates, and administrative service.

Applicants should submit the following:

  1. A cover letter highlighting qualifications for the position, including teaching and administrative experience.
  2. A current cv that includes courses taught and teaching interests.
  3. A statement of one’s teaching philosophy that includes descriptions of any pedagogical innovations and/or curriculum development.
  4. Up to three undergraduate syllabi and accompanying teaching evaluations.
  5. Contact information for three references, at least two of whom can comment on teaching experience and ability.

Application materials should be submitted at:
