Advising

Students are expected to meet with their advisors during the registration period for each semester.   It is important that students meet with their advisors prior to the registration window because many courses in psychology fill up quickly, and if students are not able to register because they have not been checked "Eligible to Enroll" they may be closed out of courses that they would otherwise have gotten into.

Your academic advisor for your first major must mark you "Eligible to Enroll" after your meeting each semester. An advisor selection form is available for you to request your advisor. We assign advisors to all First Majors. Second Majors and Minors must contact the DUS or DUS assistant for questions about their degree.

Prepare for your advising appointment by completing your "Advisement What If" report in ACES. Print that report and bring to your meeting. This will assist your advisor in planning your course of study. Check the general requirements in the Bulletin and the Psychology major requirements and have a plan in mind.

Schedule your advising appointment early in the Advising Period each semester. Your advisor's time is limited and their slots may fill quickly. If you have difficulty in scheduling a time to meet with your advisor, you may contact the DUS office for assistance.

Because pre-registration is handled on a tiered basis, you may not get into certain courses until your senior year. Anticipate this; provide yourself with alternate courses of action. Consider the possibility of other small classes, or a Practicum (PSY 203) which can lead to independent studies with a professor with similar interests. Contact instructors early for "permission of instructor" courses.
