We are a loving family of four living in Chapel Hill.  Dad is a professor at Duke University and mom is currently responsible for the children’s education and development.  Our ten-year old daughter was adopted at the age of two. Bright and enthusiastic, she is homeschooled and attends a three-hour afternoon academic program during the school year.  Our son is a senior in high school and attends a traditional independent school in Durham. Our summers are mostly spent here with occasional travels. 

Job description

You will join a team of dedicated parents and experienced occupational and family therapists to help provide a secure, positive environment for our delightful and talented daughter. This unique opportunity involves more than simply providing child care.  You will receive hands-on training in child development and education and the challenges associated with international adoption and ADHD. You will be responsible for transportation to and from school, sports, and community activities, oversee and coach homework and music practice, and implement household structure and rules in collaboration with parents and a professional team. Household duties like light meal preparation and running errands may be required as time permits.  You will enjoy the opportunity to engage fully by attending family therapy sessions to insure consistency as we work together toward our goal for our daughter – to grow toward a happy, principled, and productive teen and adult life.

    Summer Internship-Center for Educational Improvement

    The Center for Educational Improvement is a non-profit organization in VA that conducts research and professional development to improve schools. We are seeking interns for the summer to assist with 6 areas: heart centered learning (mindfulness, compassion and social emotional development), executive functioning, trauma, poverty, reducing text anxiety, and improving school disciplinary policies. We are interested in the relationship between improving children’s executive functions and their well-being and improvement in academic achievement. We also focus on practical application in schools and consider the role of school administrators as well as teachers and ancillary staff. 

    The internships can be virtual, or if you live in the DC area, we meet weekly. Most interns work 15-20 hours a week for at least 9-12 weeks.  Interns assist with conducting literature reviews, preparing presentations, analyzing data, writing proposals, and writing blog posts and eNewsletter articles.     About us:

    The Language Learning Lab at Boston College (L3@BC) opened in January of 2016. Our research sits at the intersection between linguistics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and psychology. Our strategy is to leverage new and emerging technologies to address previously unanswerable scientific questions. Methodologically, the lab uses a number of well-established methods, such as judgment studies, eye-tracking, and ERPs. However, we are particularly interested in exploring and exploiting new and emerging methods. One such method is testing tens or even hundreds of thousands of children and adults over the Internet, and in doing so being able to study questions that were previously out of reach.

    The Cooperation Lab at Boston College directed by Katherine McAuliffe is seeking motivated, reliable and enthusiastic summer research assistants who would like to gain experience with research in social cognitive development. Research in the lab focuses on the development of cooperative abilities in children, with a particular focus on how children develop a sense of fairness.

    Internship Description 

    Summer research responsibilities include participant recruitment, help running studies both in the lab and in outdoor spaces, debriefing parents, data entry and video coding. Additionally, research assistants will be involved in an informal reading and research group and will gain hands-on experience working with data. Research assistants will work closely with other team members and will be supervised by the Cooperation Lab’s director and lab manager.

    In addition to gaining experience with all aspects of our research, the lab will be hosting a high school summer internship program and assistants will have the opportunity to mentor high school students in the latter part of their internship.

    Eligibility and requirements 

    Research assistants are asked to commit approximately 40 hours per week to research in the lab and should be open to the possibility of testing outdoors and on weekends. The internship will be 10-11 weeks starting around the beginning of June. These are unpaid positions so students are encouraged to seek funding from outside sources and/or their home institutions.

    Summer Scholar Counselor at Children’s Mercy

    Children’s Mercy (located in the Kansas City metro area) announces summer scholar Counselor (typically undergraduate students) and Lead (typically graduate students) Counselor positions for our Summer Treatment Program (STP). The STP is an award winning, evidence-based program for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) developed by William Pelham, Ph.D. and associates. The STP has been listed in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. The Children’s Mercy STP is directed by Children’s Mercy ADHD Specialty Clinic Director of Psychological Services, Carla Counts Allan, Ph.D., and co-directed by Children’s Mercy Psychologists, Trista Perez Crawford, Ph.D. and Simone Sherman Moody, Ph.D. 

    Counselors and Lead Counselors will receive approximately 360 hours of face-to-face clinical experience working with children with ADHD and related behavior problems. Counselors are assigned to groups of 10-15 children, with 4-5 counselors per group. Counselors implement behavior modification procedures for sports, social skills training, art, and academic activities. Counselors will provide feedback to children and parents and record behavioral data for children in their groups. They also receive daily performance feedback from experienced staff members who provide live supervision. There will be one Lead Counselor for each group. Lead Counselors will participate in counselor responsibilities in addition to overseeing the duties of the counselors in their group.

    Activities take place outdoors and counselors will be involved in recreational activities throughout the day; this requires knowledge of rules/fundamentals of represented sports. Counselors will serve as Sport Leaders and will plan and implement skill drills to improve children’s performance. Previous experience in sports participation, refereeing, or coaching children is preferred.

    Counselors must be available to work from May 25, 2017 through July 28, 2017. The beginning of employment will include a multi-day training session. Hired counselors will be responsible for reading the STP manual and being familiar with its contents prior to beginning employment.

    Counselor hours of employment are from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Counselors also work until 8:30 PM one evening/week while parents participate in weekly parent training groups. Counselors and lead counselors are paid an hourly wage with overtime benefits commensurate with their experience and position requirements.

    Undergraduate and graduate level students interested in Clinical Psychology or Pediatrics are encouraged to apply. Experience gained at the STP may also be beneficial in preparation for careers in education, mental health, physical education, psychiatry, recreational therapy, behavior analysis, social work, and counseling and can serve as an opportunity to obtain a recommendation for work or graduate school. Positions are competitive and offers will be made until positions are filled.     Clinical Research Coordinator I, Community Psychiatry PRIDE at the Massachusetts General Hospital

    The Community Psychiatry Program for Research in Implementation and Dissemination of Evidence-Based Treatments (Community Psychiatry PRIDE) at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) / Harvard Medical School is accepting applications for a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator I position. Community Psychiatry PRIDE is a dissemination and implementation psychiatry research center that focuses on reducing disparities in mental health in the communities across Massachusetts (PI and Director: Luana Marques, PhD). The overarching mission of Community Psychiatry PRIDE is to bridge the gap between science and practice by bringing evidence-based treatments (EBTs) to communities. Specifically, the program is designed to study the process by which EBTs can be effectively disseminated to community organizations, which in turn leads to increased access and quality of care across a wide range of psychiatric disorders. The Clinical Research Coordinator I will be responsible for managing research studies related to the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatments in low-income, diverse settings. The anticipated start date for the Clinical Research Coordinator is July 1, 2018.

    UMD ADHD program seeking an RA with fMRI experience

    The Maryland ADHD Program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park directed by Dr. Andrea Chronis-Tuscano is seeking a full-time research assistant beginning Summer 2017 (specific start date flexible).  In collaboration with researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Center for Neurodevelopment and Imaging Research (CNIR) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Maryland ADHD Program has been recommended for funding to investigate reward responsiveness as a putative mechanism of change in an ongoing randomized clinical trial of behavioral activation treatment in college students with ADHD who are engaging in problematic alcohol use.  This exciting project will combine bio-behavioral (i.e., computerized behavioral tasks; multimodal neuroimaging) and treatment outcome research to better understand mechanisms underlying successful treatment for college students with ADHD engaged in problematic alcohol use. This position is contingent upon official funding from the agency.

    Research assistant responsibilities include recruiting and scheduling participants for research studies, data collection (MRI and computerized tasks), data processing and analysis (using neuroimaging software such as FSL, SPM, AFNI and matlab), assistance with IRB paperwork and general management of study operations. Key skills for this position include the ability to organize and manage time and multiple tasks, the ability to work independently, experience and proficiency with administering behavioral tasks (e.g., E-prime, Presentation) and neuroimaging software (i.e., SPM, AFNI, etc), and the ability to maintain effective communications and working relationships with other study team members, supervisors and participants.       The Learning to Talk Lab seeks an energetic, detail-­‐oriented, highly organized and innovative individual to support the UMD Toggle Talk Project.  This is a 4-­‐year project funded by the Institute of Education Sciences of the Department of Education. Researchers in the Learning to Talk Lab at UMD are partnering with the Baltimore City Public Schools to study the efficacy of Toggle Talk, a language arts curriculum supplement. Toggle Talk provides young children with vocabulary and language structure awareness to become comfortable in switching between their home/informal language and classroom/formal language. Toggle Talk has been shown to improve standardized reading scores in pilot studies.

      Research Associate Responsibilities

      The UMD Toggle Talk project is seeking a full-­‐time research associate to be involved in many aspects of the project, including testing students in Baltimore City elementary school and supervising undergraduate and graduate student examiners. The research associate will also be involved in planning and executing recruitment events, preparing materials for schools and parents, and scheduling student assessments and teacher observations. The position also involves maintaining a calendar and interacting with teachers and other school staff. The position empowers the individual to develop a strong portfolio of experience in working with children in the schools, educational research, community outreach, mentorship, and leadership.

      Project Coordinator - University of Massachusetts, Amherst

      We seek candidates with experience working with developmental populations. Experience working in a preschool classroom is preferred but not required. As both involve testing at various locations, access to transportation is essential (standard gas mileage is reimbursed).

      Project Coordinator:  This person will manage recruiting and scheduling for the project.  This involves educating preschool directors, teachers, and parents as to the objectives of the project, scheduling and conducting testing sessions in the preschools, and helping manage data.  We will provide career development for this person according to their career goals, but this may include training in research methods and statistics and the opportunity to present and publish on the projects.

      The Sleep Lab @ UMass has a new 3-bedroom sleep lab in the Institute of Applied Life Sciences for in-lab studies. We combine techniques including polysomnography (EEG, EOG, and EMG) and actigraphy to measure sleep and use an array of behavioral probes in populations from children to older adults.  UMass is located in the beautiful Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts.

      This position is assigned to the Center for Developmental Science (CDS), an advanced institute for interdisciplinary and collaborative studies in human development. The CDS is inter-institutional and its faculty consists primarily of scientists from Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Meredith College, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Selected researchers from other national and international institutions collaborate in research initiated by the Center.

      The Center has five specific aims: to advance the frontiers of behavioral, biological, and social science by supporting interdisciplinary research on the bio-behavioral development of individuals over the life span and across generations; serve society by establishing linkages between the University of North Carolina, the state, and the nation through research related to promotion of healthy behaviors in individuals, families, schools, and communities; enhance teaching by providing an advanced interdisciplinary studies program in developmental science for doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and faculty members; promote and support faculty scholarship and research collaboration across disciplines, departments, schools, and universities in the study of developmental processes, and foster cross-institutional cooperation in developmental studies at component campuses of the University of North Carolina and private universities in North Carolina.

      The CDS has a variety of research and training programs such as the Behavioral Science Research Division (BSRD), the Social Development and Intervention Research Program (SDIRP), the Developmental Methodology Core, the Health Risk Behaviors Core, and the Carolina Consortium on Human Development (CCHD). There are more than 16 funded research projects that are conducted by the Center faculty. Most of these projects have been funded by federal agencies, but there are also state funded contracts, private foundation grants, sub-contractual agreements, and internal awards.

      This full-time research position is time-limited for a 3-year period and is assigned to projects that are affiliated with the Behavioral Science Research Division at the Center for Developmental Science.

      This position is designed to serve as a Research Assistant (RA) for newly-funded projects of the Behavioral Research Science Division at the Center for Developmental Science. The RA will work with principal investigators and other research staff to provide support to assigned research activities with a focus on participant recruitment, data collection, and data processing. Primary areas of responsibilities are:

      •Approximately 50% time is involved in facilitating and conducting data collection in families’ homes and in local schools. •Approximately 25% time will be spent coding and scoring these data using established coding schemes and data management systems. •Approximately 15% time is involved in the entry, management, and analysis of these data in various ways, as directed by the Project Co-PIs. •Approximately 10% time is involved with other research activities such as planning meetings, preparation of research materials, training, and support with reporting needs.

      We are hiring a full-time research coordinator to assist in the conduct of two collaborative community-based studies of evidence-based practices (EBPs) in children’s mental health and school settings.  Under the direct supervision of Dr. Anna Lau, the coordinator will work on the 4KEEPS Project focused on “Identifying Quality Indicators within Multiple EBP Delivery in Child Mental Health Services” and the TEAMS Study focused on "Translating Evidence-Based Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD): A Multi-Level Implementation Strategy”.

      About 4KEEPS

      This is a two-site (UCLA and UCSD) NIMH-funded project focused on community therapists implementation of multiple evidence-based practices for children’s mental health within a system-driven reform in Los Angeles County. The aims of the new study are to develop a pragmatic quality assessment tool to assess therapist delivery of EBP strategies associated with positive client outcomes.  This study is being conducted by Drs. Lauren Brookman-Frazee and Anna Lau.

      About TEAMS

      This is a set of two coordinated NIMH-funded studies that will test ways to support community providers in their learning and delivery of treatments for ASD.  TEAMS is being carried out in three-sites (UCLA, UC Davis and UCSD) under the direction of Drs. Lauren Brookman-Frazee, Aubyn Stahmer and Anna Lau.

      Responsibilities:

      • Data collection with study participants in community mental health agencies and public schools 
      • Training and management of research assistants
      • Observational coding of recordings of EBP delivery in the community
      • General project tasks including data tracking and management and analyses, preparing study materials, literature searches, report and manuscript preparation.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or related field
      • Experience with data entry/management programs (e.g., SPSS)
