The Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition, directed by Dr. Adam Green, anticipates hiring a full-time lab manager to coordinate and conduct research on learning, reasoning, and creativity in high school students and young adults. The lab manager will contribute to ongoing large-scale grant-funded projects and help in development of new projects. The preferred start date is mid-June 2018. Primary Responsibilities:

- Collection of brain-imaging data (primarily fMRI), as well as behavioral and survey data

- Recruitment of study participants

- Coordination of lab members to conduct ongoing projects

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree

The Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition, directed by Dr. Adam Green, anticipates hiring a half-time research coordinator for an NSF-funded study of concept development and reasoning in real-world high school STEM education. Primary responsibilities will include outreach to students and families as well as teachers and school administrators. Depending on level of interest, the research coordinator will have substantial opportunity to engage with all aspects of the project, including collection and analysis of behavioral and brain-imaging data. This project seeks to contribute to bridging the gap between the real-world classroom and the cognitive neuroscience laboratory.

The Developmental Social Neuroscience Lab at UNC Chapel Hill, directed by Dr. Eva Telzer, is seeking to hire a lab manager. Our lab examines how social contexts, such as the family and peers, influence adolescent decision making. We use diverse methodological tools, including daily experience sampling, diurnal cortisol, and fMRI.

Responsibilities for the current position include, but are not limited to, overseeing all administrative aspects of the lab, including IRB preparation and submission, oversight of all human subjects-related research, managing the budget, assisting with grant applications and progress reports, training and overseeing undergraduate research assistants, managing all personnel in the lab, and overseeing research activities in the lab including protocol development, participant retention, data collection, and data management. The lab manager must be able to effectively collect fMRI data from child and adolescent participants, which includes consenting/assenting families, putting children in the scanner, and applying basic standardized quality control. This individual is responsible for overseeing projects and independently conducting research with minimal oversight and is expected to take the initiative to improve study protocols and adapt procedures to suit lab objectives. The position will have a start date around June 2018.

The ideal applicant will have a B.S. or B.A. and have a background in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. Job Summary

JOB OVERVIEW The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) position is with the Child Trauma Research Program (CTRP). CTRP is nationally recognized for its leadership in developing effective, family-centered interventions for children aged birth through five who experience traumatic events. Our team of multi-cultural, multi-lingual staff is dedicated to helping young children and their families heal from trauma. We develop and evaluate effective treatment models, provide training across settings and disciplines, and offer direct service to children and their families. Since 2001, CTRP has been the lead program of the Early Trauma Treatment Network, a center of the federally- funded National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Five randomized trials support the efficacy of Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), our intervention for children aged 0-five who have experienced at least one traumatic event (e.g. maltreatment, the sudden or traumatic death of someone close, a serious accident, sexual abuse, exposure to domestic violence). As a result, many organizations across the country and internationally are seeking training in CPP.

CTRP is funded to conduct clinical research on Child Parent Psychotherapy and other related early childhood trauma informed interventions; research support is critical for the functioning of CTRP. There are currently approximately 15 research protocols at CTRP approved by the Committee for Human Research at UCSF.

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will manage and coordinate the data collection of several concurrent clinical research studies. The CRC will work independently under the direction of the Principal Investigators (PIs), Associate Research Director/Director of Dissemination, and the Associate Director to Community Programs. Duties will include, but are not limited to, creating, cleaning, updating, and managing databases, coordinating research support staff and volunteers, training new staff members and clinical interns (pre-doctoral interns, post- doctoral fellows, and pre- and post-masters-level graduate students) in research procedures, developing procedures to ensure data quality (including meeting with clinical staff to review data collection procedures and protocol adherence), tracking participants in clinical research studies, coordinating and administering relevant parts of the assessment protocols to caregivers and children, working with the Committee on Human Research (CHR) online systems to submit Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for new studies as well as for renewals and modifications, reporting study progress to investigators, writing up study reports, purchasing assessment measures from manufacturers, and collaborating on the development of new study protocols.

  • Coordinate site visits at selected case study sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, research methods, education policy, public policy, economics, or a related discipline with strong social science research emphasis. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 2+ years experience conducting research in education, technology, or social sciences field such as economics.
  • Expertise in qualitative data collection, analytical methods, and analysis software packages a must.
  • Expertise in NVivo and/or Dedoose required.
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis and software packages (SPSS, R, STATA, etc.) strongly preferred.

Research Assistant position: ASD Development Lab at the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain

The ASD Development Lab (PI: So Hyun “Sophy” Kim, Ph.D.) at the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain (CADB; Director: Catherine Lord, Ph.D.) at Weill Cornell Medicine is currently seeking full-time research assistants to work on research studies on children and adults with autism spectrum disorders including a newly NIMH funded study (PI : Sophy Kim).  The RA's primary responsibilities include behavioral coding, subject recruitment, testing participants with standardized assessments as well as play based assessments, managing and analyzing datasets, preparing and maintaining IRB protocols, and running ERP/EEG tasks. The RA will be working with individuals with autism with varying levels of language and cognitive abilities. The expected start date for the position is Spring/Summer 2018. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Rhode Island Consortium for Autism Research & Treatment (RI-CART) is looking for a highly organized and energetic person to serve as a research assistant. The RA will assist in the acquisition and analysis of participant information for clinical research projects. Duties will include interviewing participants and/or families to gather information and obtain informed consent, and other day-to-day study activities. There will be opportunities to participate in qualitative/quantitative analysis of data and possibly assist in first draft preparation of manuscripts. An important part of the position will be to assist in recruiting efforts (e.g., contact providers, attending local events, and coordinating recruitment from affiliated clinical programs). RI-CART is an exciting and unique state-wide research consortium and patient registry effort. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: 

We are looking to hire a college graduate with strong organizational and interpersonal skills as a full time research coordinator for several projects investigating the neural basis and nature of cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders.  This is an excellent research opportunity for someone bound for graduate school in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or medicine.  The primary line of investigation focuses on the contribution of abnormal sleep to impaired memory consolidation in schizophrenia and autism. The techniques employed include polysomnography (sleep electroencephalography), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), magneto- and electroencephalography (MEG/EEG), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).   The coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator, lab mates, and collaborators on all aspects of the research projects. Training in data acquisition and analysis will be provided.  Responsibilities are varied and include managing patient studies, recruitment, screening and characterization of participants, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with grant applications, human subject applications, and publications. Knowledge of Mac and/or Linux/UNIX operating systems as well as some programming experience are an asset, as is a high level of comfort with novel computer applications and environments. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities are varied and include managing patient studies, which includes participant screening, recruitment of eligible participants, scheduling study visits, coordinating study visits with other researchers involved in the study and the MGH Clinical Research Center, characterization of participants by using standardized cognitive and clinical assessments, aiding in MRI and EEG studies, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with grant applications, human subject applications, and publications.

The Clinical Research Coordinator II should also possess:

  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems 
  • Ability to interpret acceptability of data results 
  • Working knowledge of data management program

Davidson-Broughton Summer Study Program

The Davidson-Broughton Summer Study Program is now accepting applications for Summer 2018 . This 8-week program is a collaboration between Davidson College and Broughton Hospital, a state psychiatric facility serving western North Carolina. Participants work with hospital professionals as observers and assistants in patient treatment programs. Participants also receive course credit and academic instruction. This year’s program will be held from June 4 through July 27.

The program is open to students enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university. High school students, rising college freshmen, graduating college seniors and graduate students are not eligible. Applicants are required to have completed introductory psychology and abnormal psychology (or a similar course) by the program start date.

A reminder that applications for the 2018-2019 Costanzo Teaching Fellowships are due next Friday, 3/9.  The Costanzo Fellowship is a unique opportunity for undergraduates to receive substantial training in teaching as part of the teaching team for Introductory Psychology (PSY 101). Teaching Fellows are paid and are required to enroll in a 1-credit Psychology Teaching Seminar (that counts toward the Psychology major) during the fall term.

Overview

This academic credit internship, beginning in June 2018, is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior or senior year, recent college graduates and graduate students, with an interest in educational assessment, to apply principles and theory, learned in the classroom, in a professional environment.

This unpaid internship provides a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest. It will provide an opportunity for career exploration and development as well as a chance to learn new skills. This is a 40 hour per week internship, during regular business hours, with some flexibility around an academic course schedule, if needed. The internship will last approximately 10 weeks.

Responsibilities

Learning Objectives

The intern will support the Optimizing Assessment for All project. Students with assist with research and administrative assistance for research associated with educational psychology, assessment, and task analysis, within the Brookings Center for Universal Education. Assistance may include but is not limited to: sourcing published and unpublished assessment tools used to measure student functioning across a range of skills; assisting in literature reviews regarding developmental and learning progressions of 21st century skills; task analysis of 21st century assessments; reviewing and organizing relevant research, data, and documents from various sources including electronic databases, libraries, interviews and focus groups, and government documents; drafting papers on project-related work for a variety of audiences; participating in relevant meetings and briefings; assisting with events and private discussions, presentations, and report launches, including preparing presentations and talking points.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Skills

Applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students (who have completed their freshman year) working toward a degree in a relevant field (i.e. education, educational psychology, assessment, special education, or related field) with strong knowlege of task analysis) or recent college graduates.A strong interest in global education and development; demonstrated research experience and familiarity with qualitative research methods, including qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo is preferred. 

Candidates should have solid interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail. Our most successful interns have: knowledge of, and experience with, teaching, educational psychology, task analysis, learning progressions, measurement; experience in conducting literature searches and review, including reference management software such as EndNote. Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner is helpful.

Dr. Sara Cordes' Infant and Child Cognition Lab, located on the main campus of Boston College, is looking for motivated and reliable undergraduates interested in participating in a summer research internship in developmental psychology. This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain valuable research experience in the field of cognitive development. Research in the lab focuses on how infants, children, and adults track number and other quantities, as well as how these abilities relate to prosocial behavior in preschoolers and to formal mathematics performance in school-aged children (https://www.cordeslab.org). 

This internship is open to any current undergraduate student, and is best suited for students who wish to pursue graduate study in psychology. Students from primarily undergraduate and liberal arts institutions are strongly encouraged to apply. PT Research Support Assistant - Thirty Million Words (University of Chicago)

The Thirty Million Words Initiative at the University of Chicago is looking for a Research Support Assistant to transcribe videotaped parent-child play sessions recorded in our longitudinal randomized controlled trial (RCT).  The transcripts prepared from these sessions serve as the basis for multiple analyses through which we will evaluate the effectiveness of our Thirty Million Words-Home Visiting curriculum.  The position involves meticulous attention to detail, fluid use of multiple computer programs, and ability to maintain high accuracy of transcription of aural files over extended periods of time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare saved video files for transcription using Datavyu software for CLAN software analysis.
  • Prepare verbatim transcriptions of conversations between parents and young children using CHAT procedure.
  • Maintain high reliability with transcription team.
  • Save videos and transcripts according to TMW lab data organization methods.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with transcription and/or coding preferred.
  • Background in Linguistics preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer programs required.

The Harvard Lab for Developmental Studies, under the direction of Dr. Susan Carey and Dr. Jesse Snedeker, invites undergraduate students and graduating seniors to apply for our 2018 summer internship program. Current research projects focus on causality, kind representations, executive function and conceptual change, the development and acquisition of language, and the relationship between syntactic and semantic representations of language.

The internship will start on 6/11/2018 and run through 8/17/2018. This full time internship position is a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience with psychology research. A stipend of $1500 may be awarded for a full time commitment, but applicants are encouraged to apply for funding from external sources.

Because of the nature of the internship, it is essential that interns be mature, articulate, and comfortable with parents and children. They should also be highly organized and reliable. 2nd Annual University of Delaware Undergraduate Workshop in Cognitive and Brain Sciences

Are you an undergraduate interested in learning more about cognitive and brain sciences? If so, the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware is holding its 2nd Annual Summer Workshop in Cognitive and Brain Sciences from June 4th-15th, 2018. This program is an intensive workshop for undergraduates who are interested in cognitive research. Participants will engage in immersive training in cognitive and brain sciences, which includes both formal coursework, interactive teaching, and hands-on experience with functional neuroimaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, cognitive neuropsychological research, and more. This program is open to permanent residents and citizens of the United States.

Thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation, travel, tuition, room and board will be provided for the entire two-week program. Furthermore, selected workshop attendees will have the opportunity to engage in cognitive neuroscience research over the entire summer at the University of Delaware. Those students will be provided with a stipend, in addition to workshop expenses.

Summer Research Opportunity in Dan Gilbert's Lab at Harvard University

Daniel Gilbert's lab at Harvard University is accepting applications for volunteer research assistants for summer 2018. The program provides hands-on experience in all aspects of the research process, including idea generation and development, study design, data collection, and statistical analysis. Ongoing research in the lab currently focuses on affective forecasting, altruism, advice, judgment and decision-making, and biases and errors in conversation and social interaction. 

Interns work approximately 35 hours per week from early June to mid-August. The ideal candidate is a motivated undergraduate or recent graduate with a keen interest in social psychology. Previous research experience is an asset, but not a requirement.
