Massachusetts General Hospital Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation Clinical Research Coordinator Position

The Massachusetts General Hospital Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation (formerly the Bipolar Clinic and Research Program) is seeking applicants for a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) position. The aim of the program is to evaluate psychiatric and psychosocial treatments for bipolar disorder, to learn more about the causes and general course of this disorder, and to investigate the pathophysiology of the condition with neuroimaging and other biological markers. Our program participates in large-scale, multi-site, NIMH, industry, and privately-sponsored initiatives.

The CRC will manage and conduct a full range of research and clinical activities within the program. The CRC will assist in conducting clinical studies with the clinical and research staff. Responsibilities include structured patient interviews, patient recruitment, data collection and management, grant preparation, Institutional Review Board correspondence, phlebotomy (drawing blood), as well as other key administrative tasks. The CRC will also be offered the opportunity to assist with data analysis and preparation of poster presentations, symposiums, and manuscripts. The CRC will also answer triage phone calls, conduct phone screens, participate in case reviews to determine patient’s eligibility and make referrals. A key component of the position includes assisting in grant proposals for future clinical trials. The CRC will liaise with Research Management at Massachusetts General Hospital, the funding agency, as well as help prepare aspects of the proposal.

The primary research projects the CRC will work on may include, but are not limited to psychosocial interventions (e.g., mindfulness-based, cognitive behavioral, lifestyle changes), medication-based trials (e.g., new medications, dose-response, examination of side effects), online and mobile phone based studies, as well as a transcranial laser therapy study pilot testing a near infrared LED device. Currently, a major project within our program is developing the MoodNetwork (www.moodnetwork.org), a patient-centered online initiative aimed at building a community of 50,000 individuals with mood disorders to conduct comparative effectiveness studies. Thus, if you have an interest and/or special expertise in web interventions (e.g., website development, design, online assessment and recruitment, use of social media), please mention this in your cover letter. Please note that interest and expertise in managing web content and social media outlets is a plus, but not a requirement or necessary for this position.

A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts is required. A strong background in psychology, biology, and/or health sciences is preferred. Prior research, statistical, and/or clinical experience is strongly recommended. The CRC will collaborate with other members of the research team, faculty and staff of the Dauten Family Center, but will also be expected to take initiative and work well independently. Excellent attention to detail, organization, strong interpersonal skills, great writing skills and being able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is a must. Candidates should have knowledge of basic statistical methods. Due to the deadline sensitive nature of many projects, the pace of work may be demanding at times and requires prioritization.

Bilingual Parent-Child Specialist position at NYU School of Medicine

We are seeking an Spanish-English bilingual parent-child specialist to work for a parent intervention program and related behavioral research projects in the Department of Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine. This program is designed to improve child development outcomes in at-risk populations and is being administered in the context of randomized controlled trials at Bellevue Hospital Center (Manhattan, NY) and in the context of a clinical program at Woodhull Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY), and other sites in NYC to be determined.

About the position:

The parent-child specialist will administer a behavioral parenting program designed to improve child development outcomes in at-risk populations.  The program is a relationship-based intervention with parents and their children (birth-5) that takes place in the pediatric clinic, is offered for free to low-income parents, and is being studied as part of a research program.

Specifically, this individual will be responsible for:

Primary tasks:

Providing the parenting intervention program (Video Interaction Project) to parents of infants and young children, which involves:

o   Providing structured guidance about child development

Research Study Assistant, Labs of Cognitive Neuroscience, Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard School of Medicine

The Faja Lab within the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience (LCN) at Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a Research Assistant for a new NIMH-funded project examining the emergence of executive function difficulties in young children with ASD relative to children with developmental delays or no developmental concerns. Research in the LCN is generally dedicated to furthering our understanding of brain and cognitive development in children diagnosed with or at risk for various developmental disorders. Through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, we aim to drive the science forward as rapidly as possible, so that we can translate what we learn into earlier identification, improved therapies, and better outcomes for children and families affected by developmental disorders. Children’s Hospital of Boston is ranked as the top Children’s Hospital in the United States and is committed research and to building a diverse workforce. The Research Assistant will work primarily on a project that will examine biological and behavioral markers associated with executive and social functioning in preschool aged children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), developmental delays, and no developmental concerns. The project will use electrophysiology, behavioral, clinical, and parent report measures in a group of children who are participating at multiple time points. Responsibilities will include recruiting and scheduling participants, running experimental study sessions, administering EEG measures, behaviorally assisting children during visits, coordinating collection of surveys from parents, as well as data entry and management. This project is a longitudinal study that requires a high level of data integrity. The research assistant may also be responsible for coordinating and training research interns. Finally, the research assistant will contribute to data processing, scoring, and cleaning and will have the opportunity to assist with analysis.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field, as well as a 2-year commitment to the position
  • Availability for flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends to facilitate visits
  • Previous professional experience with children, including at least one year of experience working in a research setting

Lab Manager Position in the Mind Perception and Morality Lab at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Dr. Kurt Gray is recruiting a full-time lab manager for the Mind Perception and Morality Lab, starting in Summer or Fall 2017.  The MPM lab studies how people see the minds of others, and how this "mind perception" underlies our most crucial moral judgments. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining more experience prior to applying to graduate school in social psychology, organizational behavior, or similar fields.  

Responsibilities

The lab manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily research and administrative tasks of the lab. The lab manager’s primary task will be overseeing a multi-year NSF funded project on ethics in the workplace. They will also take care of administrative duties such as completing IRBs, ordering supplies, managing RA schedules, and organizing participant payments. The lab manager will be encouraged to develop their own research lines related to mind perception and/or morality if they so desire.

Qualifications

Applicants must be conscientious and have good attention to detail. They must also like people - this is a social psychology lab, after all.  Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field of behavioral science or philosophy. They must also have experience with SPSS, Qualtrics, and Excel. Previous experience with running behavioral studies is a plus.

The Developmental Psychopathology Lab at the University of Iowa (Director: Dr. Isaac Petersen) is looking for a research lab coordinator to assist in research studies examining the mechanisms in the development of externalizing behavior problems (e.g., aggression, conduct problems), self-regulation, and school readiness in young children, with special emphasis on neural mechanisms (EEG/ERP).  Responsibilities include participant recruitment, scheduling, conducting batteries of neural and behavioral testing with children, data management and analysis, coordination of research assistants, and performing other research tasks as coordinator of the research team.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related discipline, substantial research or work experience with young children, and experience using software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.  Experience with EEG/ERP is highly desirable but not required.  Experience with computer software such as REDCap, R, and E-Prime is desirable but not required.  The initial appointment will be for one year beginning in Summer 2018, with the possibility of renewal for a 2nd year depending on performance and available funding.

Laboratory Coordinator Position--Bauer Lab

The laboratory coordinator will assist with studies of the development of episodic and semantic memory, in preschool to school-age children, and young adults. The laboratory makes use of behavioral measures, eye tracking, and event-related potential (ERP) methods. Duties include contributing to study design, creating experimental stimuli, testing participants, managing data, and assisting with data analysis. There also are administrative duties including assisting with participant recruitment and training and supervising undergraduate research assistants. Coordinators also have the opportunity to attend and present the work of the laboratory at scientific conferences and to contribute to preparation of scientific publications.

 

The position is ideally suited to a recent college graduate who has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, linguistics, neuroscience, or a related field and who is (a) looking for additional research experience before going on to graduate school or (b) seeking a more permanent employment opportunity. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, an ability to work independently, and an interest in development are a must. The ideal candidate will have either (a) computer programming experience, preferably using R, Python, or Matlab; or (b) a strong desire to develop programming skills. Lab Manager Position at the University of Delaware

The Child's Play, Learning and Development Lab at the University of Delaware needs a highly capable, eager, and well-spoken individual to serve as a full-time laboratory manager and project coordinator for an IES-funded project to develop a language assessment for toddlers. A recent college graduate having majored in psychology or a related field and looking for additional research experience before going on to graduate school would be ideal. Former laboratory coordinators have accumulated paper presentations and publications and then gone on to the graduate schools of their choice.

The laboratory is extremely active and highly collaborative with a focus on language acquisition, spatial skills, and learning through play. Strong writing skills are essential as the lab manager collaborates on publications, writes grant reports, and presents at conferences. Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and organizational skills are a must as the lab manager connects the lab to the University IRB office, manages participant recruitment, and oversees purchasing equipment and supplies. As the project coordinator for the IES language grant, the lab manager organizes meetings between the different sites, collects data at local preschools and daycares, and plays a strong role in the development of the assessment.

The lab manager must also have excellent social skills. In addition to training and supervising undergraduate research assistants, the lab manager cultivates a team orientation and fosters a high degree of professionalism among laboratory members. The applicant must be excellent with young children and their parents as well as with the staff they interface with at the University and in the field. Previous research experience in a psychology or related laboratory is required and an interest and background in how young children learn is desirable.

Summer Research Internship in Computational Clinical Psychology with Qntfy (Part-Time, Remote)

Qntfy is looking to recruit up to 10 psychology students interested to gain research experience in computational clinical psychology. Qntfy is a psychology and computer science startup that uses machine learning methods to quantify psychological phenomena, detect mental illness and prevent suicidality based on digital life data. Qntfy’s work has been featured in Scientific American, Mashable, and The Mighty. Qntfy routinely publishes its findings in peer-reviewed academic venues, some of which can be found here. Interns will spend 5 - 10 hrs per week working with a research associate to detect signs of psychological disorders and/or suicidality based on social media data. This internship is unpaid and educational in nature, and all tasks can be completed remotely.

Objectives & Responsibilities This program will equip interns with research skills unique to computational psychology. These include developing annotation schemes to detect psychological constructs from social media and annotating social media data, a key task in the development of machine learning models. Interns will also gain significant topic knowledge and engage with experts in computational psychology during weekly research meetings. Opportunities may also be available for interns to produce an academic paper and conduct an independent research project related to their current studies. Interns must dedicate 5 - 10 hrs per week to the internship over the course of 12 weeks.

Requirements Successful applicants will be graduate or undergraduate students of psychology with an interest in studying social media to detect psychological disorders and/or suicidality. Knowledge of clinical psychology diagnostics and psychometrics is useful. A background in computer science is useful, but not necessary.

Dr. Dan Hyde is looking to hire someone to oversee ongoing research in the Brain and Cognitive Development Lab housed within the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Research in the lab investigates the neural basis of quantitative, spatial, and social cognition in infants, young children, and adults.  Duties will include data collection using brain (EEG/ERP, fNIRS) and behavioral measures, undergraduate staff supervision/organization, as well as some community relations and recruitment work.  Applicants should hold bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field, have experience working in a professional setting with parents and children, be fluent with both Windows and Mac operating systems, as well as have relevant research experience in cognition, development, and/or neuroscience.  Although not necessary, the ideal applicant will also have some experience with brain imaging/measures, basic computer programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python), and a solid understanding of statistics.  This is a one-year position with the possibility of a multiple-year renewal pending performance and funding.   This is an hourly position that will require 35-40 hours of work per week.  Start date is negotiable between April and July 2017, but there is a strong preference for earlier start date if possible.  Pay is also negotiable but commensurate on experience.  For more information on the type of research we do, see the lab website: http://labs.psychology.illinois.edu/BCDLab

Clinical Research Assistant, PEDIATRIC ANXIETY RESEARCH CENTER, Bradley Hospital Brown Medical School

The Pediatric Anxiety Research Center (PARC) at Bradley Hospital (located in East Providence, RI and affiliated with the Brown Medical School), is looking for two full-time clinical research assistants for several projects concerning obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. Current research projects at PARC are focused on effective therapist behaviors and dissemination of exposure treatment for pediatric OCD and anxiety, neuropsychological functioning in OCD, and treatment outcome research in an intensive program for children and adolescents with OCD and anxiety. Administrative duties include scheduling study participants, tracking progress of the studies, data entry and analysis, collaboration with community partners, and preparing submissions to the Human Subjects Protection Committee and Office of Research Administration. Aiding in study recruitment and developing innovative recruitment strategies is an important role of the research assistant. Clinical responsibilities may include screening research participants, administering ratings scales, behavioral coding of exposure treatment sessions, and administering diagnostic interviews to study participants. Participation in multidisciplinary discussions regarding research design and implementation is expected. Mentorship from psychologists and opportunities to assist in writing scientific articles for publication and grant submissions are provided. A strong academic record is essential and past research experience is desirable. Frequent travel to research sites in Rhode Island and Massachusetts is required for at least one position and may be included in both positions. Flex work schedules would be considered given significant travel to the Greater Boston area.

OVERVIEW: UC Santa Barbara’s Center for Mindfulness & Human Potential conducts rigorous research to identify the optimal ways to teach mindfulness. We use these insights to create scalable mindfulness training for youth, to train effective mindfulness teachers, and to lead innovative training programs that measure and maximize human potential. CMHP is currently inviting applicants for a 20 hour/week volunteer position designed to provide training in the psychological and brain sciences as well as exposure to the management and operation of an academic research center. Applicants can apply to assist with research through contributions in one of the following four areas. If more than one area looks relevant, please list and describe your areas of interest in order of priority.

Academic Research: Responsibilities can include running research experiments, designing research materials, conducting literature reviews, acting as a liaison to research participants, and managing/analyzing data. You will be involved in both the conceptual development and execution of research, allowing you to develop a discerning scientific eye and technical research skills.

Social Media & Community Outreach: Responsibilities can include managing an integrated social media strategy across multiple platforms, translating new scientific discoveries for general audiences, assisting with marketing campaigns, and cultivating community relationships. You will work at the intersection of scientific research and social media management, developing marketable experience in public relations.

Filming & Video Production: Responsibilities can include filming, editing, and producing content for online courses and social media. You will be supported and challenged to develop your technical and creative skills while producing a wide variety of video content that can build your personal portfolio.

Web development: Responsibilities can include the creation or extension of a web and app based online learning platform, as well as the development and refinement of CMHP’s web presence. You will collaborate with experienced software engineers to expand the center’s technological capacities.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants should have strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Prior experience in your chosen areas of interest is preferred. The time commitment is 20 hours each week.

Lab Manager at the University of Delaware

The Child's Play, Learning and Development Lab at the University of Delaware needs a highly capable, eager, and well-spoken individual to serve as a full-time laboratory manager and project coordinator for an IES-funded project to develop a language assessment for toddlers. A recent college graduate having majored in psychology or a related field and looking for additional research experience before going on to graduate school would be ideal. Former laboratory coordinators have accumulated paper presentations and publications and then gone on to the graduate schools of their choice.

The laboratory is extremely active and highly collaborative with a focus on language acquisition, spatial skills, and learning through play. Strong writing skills are essential as the lab manager collaborates on publications, writes grant reports, and presents at conferences. Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and organizational skills are a must as the lab manager connects the lab to the University IRB office, manages participant recruitment, and oversees purchasing equipment and supplies. As the project coordinator for the IES language grant, the lab manager organizes meetings between the different sites, collects data at local preschools and daycares, and plays a strong role in the development of the assessment.

The lab manager must also have excellent social skills. In addition to training and supervising undergraduate research assistants, the lab manager cultivates a team orientation and fosters a high degree of professionalism among laboratory members. The applicant must be excellent with young children and their parents as well as with the staff they interface with at the University and in the field. Previous research experience in a psychology or related laboratory is required and an interest and background in how young children learn is desirable.

The Early Learning & Cognition Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of California San Diego, under the direction of Dr. Caren Walker, is seeking a lab coordinator to begin on or around July 1, 2017, for a two year period.

The lab conducts research on abstract thinking and causal inference in early childhood, investigating how mechanisms like exploration, explanation, and counterfactual reasoning may influence conceptual change. Duties include research and administrative responsibilities, such as recruiting child participants and their families, recruiting local preschools, supervising undergraduate research assistants, and maintaining the lab's IRB protocol. 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field, as well as experience working with young children. Infant Language and Perceptual Learning Lab, University of Tennessee Knoxville

The Infant Language and Perceptual Learning Lab (infantlanguagelab.utk.edu), under the direction of Dr. Jessica Hay, is currently looking for highly motivated undergraduates and graduating seniors to take part in our summer internship. The goal of this unpaid internship is to provide hands on research experience to students interested in pursuing graduate work in developmental psychology, cognitive science, normal language acquisition, or a related field. This is our second summer internship and first intern pursued graduate school at her top graduate school.

We have recently received an NIH grant: Infant statistical learning: Resilience, longevity, and specificity. Our lab studies the computational mechanisms that support infants’ ability to acquire language. The current body of statistical learning research literature minimally addresses the complex challenges infants face when learning language. In the grant, we aim to explore statistical learning in a noisy, ecologically valid setting. Secondly, we aim to examine infant’s long term memory for newly learned words extracted from continuous speech. Lastly, we will examine how infants represent newly learned words and how this relates to subsequent language learning.

Applicants should have a background in psychology or related fields. The following skills are desirable but not necessary: computer programming, statistical analysis, experience with young children. The student’s responsibilities include: recruiting participants, running studies, collecting data from participants, and contributing to data analysis. Successful applicants will be mentored by a graduate student or the lab manager, and will play an integral role in our ongoing projects. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with other developmental labs, as our lab is part of the Child Development Research Group at UT (cdrg.utk.edu). The internship lasts 10 weeks and starts late May/early June.

Community Psychiatry PRIDE is a dissemination and implementation research lab that has a special focus on reducing mental health disparities among racially and ethnically diverse individuals. Much of our work takes place in the Chelsea community, which has significant immigrant, refugee and impoverished populations. The overarching mission of PRIDE is to bridge the gap between science and practice by bringing evidence-based treatments to the communities with the greatest need.

PRIDE exists at a unique intersection between research and practice. We are currently seeking a small team of volunteer research assistants for a 10-week internship program during summer 2017. As an intern, your work has the potential to support the reduction of health disparities across Massachusetts and beyond. You will work with Dr. Luana Marques, as well as with the clinical research team in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the lab. Intern activities include, but are not limited to:

Junior Specialist (Lab Coordinator/RA) position in Developmental Psychology at UCSB

The Social Cognitive Development Lab at University of California, Santa Barbara, directed by Dr. Zoe Liberman, has an open position for a Junior Specialist. We seek applicants with strong research experience in infancy and/or early childhood. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, previous work with children (research setting preferred), and excellent communication and computer skills. Candidates must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with others, and have strong multi-tasking and organizational skills. Because the lab does research on campus and at local museums, applicants must be comfortable communicating and interacting with a wide variety of audiences including community members at partner institutions, administrators, teachers, parents, and young children. 

The successful candidate will engage in specialized research regarding testing infants, toddlers, and children in behavioral experiments. This will include working as part of a team to recruit study participants and working closely with graduate students to further their research projects. The position will also require assisting the PI with recruiting and training undergraduate student RAs by sharing specialized knowledge and expertise in early childhood and infant research. In addition, the Junior Specialist will contribute to administrative tasks of the lab, including managing IRB protocols and reviews, and ordering and maintaining lab supplies to assure all research projects and are executed properly. 

This position will allow growth as a researcher, with additional duties including study design, stimulus construction, audio and video editing, data management, statistical analysis, presentations at lab meetings and at developmental psychology conferences, and authorship on academic research articles. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funding.
