This course reviews the field of cultural psychology, the study of how the shared meanings and practices of diverse groups shape the human mind/brain. The course is divided into three major sections. First, we will discuss general theoretical approaches to culture from psychological perspectives, including how culture shapes the self and identity. Then, we will look at cultural influences on other aspects of psychology including motivation, morality, religion, inequality, and thinking. Finally, we will examine how culture shapes emotions, relationships, and biology (including both mental and physical health).
