This position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal dependent on funding. The preferred start date is August 1, 2018.

The laboratory conducts research on many areas of cognition and cognitive development, including adults’ understanding of evolution, the development of scientific reasoning, and children’s imaginative cognition.

The lab coordinator will facilitate all aspects of these research projects, including interviewing adults, preschoolers, and school-age children; collecting and analyzing data from large-scale surveys; and designing testing instruments for both adults and children. In addition, the lab coordinator will be responsible for training and supervising undergraduate and masters-level research assistants, cultivating a team orientation, and fostering a high degree of professionalism among lab members. Other duties will include working with school and museum administrators, maintaining compliance with the University IRB, managing participant recruitment, maintaining the lab website, purchasing materials, developing and maintaining lab procedures, maintaining a complex calendar system, preparing presentations and materials for meetings, screening and prioritizing mail (including email), drafting correspondence and other documents, initiating and editing reports, and managing finances.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field within cognitive science. Other requirements include proficiency with statistical analysis, prior experience providing support in a lab environment, at least one year of relevant research experience (including research experience with children). The ideal applicant will have excellent organizational skills, strong writing skills, and the ability to multi-task and work independently. Attention to detail is crucial.

This is an entry level research staff position. Research/Laboratory/Field Assistant (RLFA) employees act as a support and a resource to the supervising faculty member with respect to the carrying out of research endeavors. RLFA employees follow instruction from their faculty supervisor with regard to work flow, prioritization of tasks, and apportionment of time/effort dedicated to specific work processes/tasks.
