Clinical Research Coordinator Position @ Institute for Medical Research, Durham NC

The Institute for Medical Research, a nonprofit organization that conducts cutting edge research for the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS), is seeking to hire a full time Clinical Research Coordinator I – Oncology. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who has an interest in clinical research.

The Clinical Research Coordinator I – Oncology will support clinical trials at the Durham VA Health Care System in the Hematology-Oncology and Radiation Oncology sections.  The areas of focus of this position are (a) implementing and performing clinical trials, (b) collecting and submitting data, and (c) developing internal tools for clinical trials data collection, tracking, and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate select clinical research projects:
    • Develop, implement, and direct study procedures, per study protocols.
    • Assist with prospective subject screening and identification
    • Perform the consent process with study subjects and enroll subjects on clinical trials.
    • Work with different services in the VA (e.g., Hematology-Oncology and Radiation Oncology) to carry out research projects.
  • Collect, manage, and submit data for clinical research projects:
    • Create tracking tools using VA software to follow subject visits and to identify and follow data needed as part of protocols, to be used across research projects
    • Collect and submit data to study sponsor per protocol
    • Perform internal data submission checks and internal audits across research projects
  • Collaborate with research team and work effectively with team members
    • Make decisions about day-to-day operations related to specific study protocols
    • Coordinate with other CRCs to ensure overall study objects are met
    • Update and maintain SOPs for various tasks
    • Participate in regular meetings and conference calls
  • Assist with finances and contracts related to cancer research studies:
    • Collaborate with IMR, providing needed documents for contracts, budget development, and invoicing
    • Track payments/invoices and subject reimbursement as part of cancer research studies

Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and/or at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • They must be reliable, self-motivated, detailed-oriented and extremely organized.

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical requirements and activities that are required to perform the essential functions of the position include, but may not be limited to, as follows:  Must be able to occasionally lift, pull and push a minimum of 40 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, sit for extended periods of time, squat, kneel, and stoop, regularly use fingers, hands for computer work.
