Clinical/Translational Research Coordinator, Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Center

With guidance and training, is responsible for coordinating the approval processes and conduct of research protocols, such that the integrity and quality of the clinical/translational research is maintained and the research is conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, federal and sponsor regulations and guidelines, Vanderbilt Policy and Procedure and research protocols. Manages screening, implements recruitment procedures, consenting, enrollment, randomization and study conduct from planning through study closeout. Performs or implements processes to assure study-related procedures are performed as required and objectives and timelines are met. Maintains accurate and timely documentation and communication with Investigators, participants, IRB, sponsors and other research related entities. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The mission of the Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Center (VSCC) is to provide quality clinical care for athletes with sports related concussion by utilizing an evidence-based medicine approach, conducting academic and clinical research, and educating athletes, parents, coaches, and healthcare providers on the recognition and management of sport-related concussion. The VSCC Research Coordinator will be tasked with organizing, contributing, and  leading several projects under the research arm of the VSCC, known as the Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Research Program (V-SCoRe). Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Maintain an organized accounting ofKeeping a running list of all V-SCoRe projects,  statuses and action plans and their status
  • Setting up and organizing all meetings related to research
  • Participating in the onboarding and training of junior lab members
  • Contributing and leading data collection of athletes with sports concussion
  • Outreach to local high schools and colleges regarding athletes with concussions
  • Perform literature reviews
  • Assist in the drafting of IRB applications, study protocols and consent forms
  • Communicate regularly with the IRB for all active studies
  • Ensure record keeping compliance (consents, data, IRB letters etc)
  • Submitting articles to journals

 Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year experience

**Preferred Qualifications**:

  • Helpful but not essential to have a degree in Athletic Training (ATC) or master’s degree in a research or health-related field. 
  • Helpful to have experience building and maintaining databases
  • Experience working with youth/adult athletes with sports concussion.
  • Experience with clinical research projects
  • Experience evaluating and presenting published scientific literature
  • Knowledge of how to use Microsoft excel
  • Comfort using statistical programs
  • Experience making figures for scientific journals 

Additional Qualification Information:

  • Prior to advancing to a Clinical/Translational Research Coordinator II, must have completed a Research 101 course such as RSS Boot camp

Sensory

  • Occasional: Vision: Clarity of near vision at 20 inches or less and far vision at 20 feet or more with depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision.
  • Frequent: Noise: May include exposure to occupational noise levels which equal or exceed an 8-hr time-weighted average of 85 decibels, requiring enrollment in VUMC's Hearing Conservation Program which includes training, use of hearing protection, and periodic audiometry.
  • Continuous: Communication: Expressing or exchanging written/verbal/electronic information.
