Lab Coordinator Positions @ Rutgers University in Syrett lab

The Laboratory for Developmental Language Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey – New Brunswick under the direction of Dr. Kristen Syrett invites applicants for a laboratory coordinator/manager position. The lab has a dual focus on semantics and pragmatics in child language acquisition and development, and experimental semantics, pragmatics, and syntax in adult psycholinguistic research. The lab is physically housed in the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS), while research activities span Linguistics, RuCCS, and the greater Central New Jersey area. The lab coordinator/manager will have ample opportunities for professional development and mentoring, and will be an important part of a rich interdisciplinary language-focused research program, with ties to Cognitive Science, Philosophy, Psychology, and the world languages. This is an ideal post-bac position for a student wanting to go to graduate school in any of these areas, as other alumni have. 

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal.  

Responsibilities include 

-leading a team of research assistants 

-being engaged in ongoing research 

-recruiting participants across platforms 

-organizing meetings and maintaining schedules 

-collecting and analyzing data 

-assisting in promoting a diverse, inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment 

-creating stimuli 

-launching studies 

-presenting research 

-promoting community outreach for language science 

Candidates must have a bachelor’s in the Speech and Hearing Sciences, Communication Disorders, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or Cognitive Psychology.  

The ideal candidate must  

-be highly organized and work efficiently 

-be detail-oriented and reliable 

-enjoy interacting with both children and adults 

-be able to work independently and as part of a team 

-be creative 

-have experience with some graphic design (Canva)  

-be willing to learn, and learn from mistakes 

-love language(s) 

-wish to gain research experience and hone their writing skills 

Other desirable skills include experience with 

- research methods in language science 

- R or other statistical software 

-experience with Praat, imovie, and other audio/video programs 

-Slack and other time management and team communication platforms 

-multiple languages
