Open Research Positions (Research Assistants) @ Butler Hospital & Alpert Medical School of Brown University

The Psychosocial Research Program at Butler Hospital is looking to hire 1-2 full-time research assistants to work on projects related to suicide assessment, prediction, and intervention in psychiatric inpatient and partial hospital settings. In particular, we are hiring for projects focused on the identification of novel risk factors for suicidal ideation and behavior using laboratory-based behavioral and physiological assessments, smartphone technology, and sleep assessments (Michael Armey, Ph.D., & Heather Schatten, Ph.D.) as well as treatment development studies for suicide (Heather Schatten, & Ph.D., Michael Armey, Ph.D.). Butler Hospital is a Brown University-affiliated psychiatric and substance abuse hospital located in Providence, RI. Butler Hospital is one of the earliest psychiatric facilities established in the United States. The Psychosocial Research Program at Butler is one of several active research groups at the hospital.

Dr. Ivan Miller directs the program, which is comprised of academic psychologists, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, master’s-level interventionists, and project coordinators. Research in this group is currently funded by numerous NIH grants, and much of this work centers on suicide prevention, posthospital transitions, technology-assisted assessment and intervention, mood and psychotic disorders, and comorbid conditions (e.g., addictions and physical health problems) conducted in a variety of clinical settings.
