PhD position: Development of Social Cognition, ManyBabies2, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

We seek applicants for a 3-year PhD position beginning August 1, 2021 (starting date is negotiable) at the chair of Developmental and Educational Psychology I, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München, under the supervision of PD Dr. Tobias Schuwerk.

The position is part of a DFG-funded project that addresses Theory of Mind in early childhood and in adults. The Munich-based project closely cooperates with researchers at Universität Göttingen (Prof. Dr. Hannes Rakoczy). The project is part of ManyBabies2, a multi-lab collaboration that investigates the robustness of findings on Theory of Mind in early childhood and adults. The ManyBabies2 consortium consists of researchers mainly from Europe, Great Britain and Northern America (https://manybabies.github.io/MB2/). The advertised PhD position is located in the context of this multi-national research environment, with a focus on gaze behavior studies with 1-4-year-old children and adults in Munich. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13, 65%).

The ideal candidate needs to hold a master’s degree in Psychology or a related discipline. Experience and/or interest in quantitative research using behavioral observational and (online) eye tracking methods with toddlers and young children is essential. Experience with behavioral coding programs and statistical computing software (especially R) is desirable. Fluency in English is required. Additionally, because the position involves interacting with young children, sufficient fluency in German is required. LMU Munich strives for gender and diversity equality.
