Research Analyst Position @ AnLar

We are looking for a team player to work on evaluations of science programs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Prince George’s County, Maryland. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards and experience conducting education research in schools. This position is based at our Arlington, VA office.

Opportunities you’ll get to take on:

  • Lead qualitative data collection and analysis by drafting data collection protocols; conducting focus groups, interviews, or site visits; taking notes or creating interview transcripts; and coding and summarizing interview data.
  • Identify appropriate methods of data collection to answer formative questions and measure fidelity of implementation.
  • Perform simple to moderately complex analyses using standard software packages, such as STATA, SAS, R, or other specialized applications.
  • Coordinate logistics for data collection by corresponding with study participants, managing logistics of in person student data collection, setting up and tracking focus groups or interviews, processing stipend payments, and setting up zoom links.
  • Collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data and trends.
  • Provide dissemination support for federally funded grant programs. 
  • Conduct literature reviews using internet and database search techniques, and summarize relevant information for projects and proposals.
  • Assist in the development of memos, briefs, reports, and white papers to convey research and evaluation findings to practitioner audiences.
  • Develop charts, graphs, and presentations to present research findings using data visualization software.
  • Work collaboratively with educational partners to refine programs based on formative and summative evaluation findings. 
  • Use project management skills to create and maintain project plans, timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Train and supervise research assistants and interns on research and analysis tasks.
  • Participate in business development efforts by identifying opportunities and contributing to the proposal development process.

Who the right candidate is:

  • Has a Master’s degree in sociology, psychology, economics, public policy, demography or other social science field and 3-4 years of experience applying qualitative and quantitative research methods with human subjects, ideally in an educational setting. 
  • Is comfortable and confident proposing and conducting quantitative data analysis using Stata, SAS, R, or other specialized statistical software applications. 
  • Has experience working with education stakeholders conducting needs assessments, developing logic models, designing evaluation plans, developing and implementing data collection protocols, and conducting evaluations.
  • Is passionate about working to improve educational opportunities, especially for historically marginalized communities. We are looking for someone who is excited and eager to engage and support schools that serve students of color and students from households with low incomes.
  • Has strong writing skills and tailors writing to different audiences — from email communication to publications for clients. 
  • Wants to work in and develop a learning culture; is open to new ideas and making mistakes.
  • Is an active listener who is able to remain responsive and flexible in challenging situations.
  • Is able to build genuine relationships with clients and the project team. Is driven to figure out what the client needs (not just what they want) in collaboration with the team. 
  • Is organized and able to keep track of shifting priorities and stay on top of deadlines.
  • Is proactive in communication by raising issues and proposing solutions early and often. 
  • Is comfortable working collaboratively in Google applications.
  • Is legally authorized to work in the United States on an ongoing basis without sponsorship (sorry, we are too small to sponsor at this time!).
  • Is able to work in our Arlington, VA office 2 days per week (1 block from Ballston Metro).
