Research Specialist (Full‑time) Position @ CANDi Lab, University of South Carolina

The CANDi Lab at the University of South Carolina is seeking a full-time Research Specialist for a grant-funded position supporting an NIH-funded study focused on anxiety in children with fragile X syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. This role offers extensive hands-on research training in developmental and clinical science.

Job Description:

The Research Specialist will contribute to research examining anxiety, communication, autistic features, and physiological functioning in children with neurodevelopmental disorders and neurotypical development. The position includes close interaction with children and families, in-lab and at-home assessments, behavioral coding, and physiological data processing. This opportunity is well suited for individuals planning to pursue graduate training in psychology, communication sciences and disorders, developmental science, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with children and families participating in research studies
  • Conduct in-lab and at-home behavioral assessments
  • Complete pre- and post-assessment preparation and documentation
  • Assist with behavioral coding and data quality procedures
  • Support collection and processing of physiological data
  • Follow research best practices and ethical guidelines under NIH-funded protocols

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, communication sciences and disorders, developmental science, or a related field
  • Strong interest in neurodevelopmental or clinical research
  • Ability to work effectively with children and families
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research experience with developmental or clinical populations
  • Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder or fragile X syndrome
  • Interest in pursuing graduate-level training
