Research Study Coordinator Position @ University of Washington

The Research in Implementation Science and Effectiveness Lab (RISE Mental Health) lab has an opportunity for a full time research assistant supporting multiple dissemination and implementation mental health-focused studies both in Washington State and globally, in low and middle income countries. Basic Functions:  The Research in Implementation Science and Effectiveness (RISE Mental Health) Lab in the Department of Psychology has an opportunity for a full-time research study coordinator supporting multiple dissemination, implementation, and effectiveness studies focused on mental health. The RISE Mental Health lab focuses on evidence-based treatments in mental health, including global studies in low-resource settings and projects focused on evidence-based treatment delivery in Washington State. Research projects include multiple National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded studies on which the lab Director, Shannon Dorsey, is Principal Investigator or a Co-Investigator. Current research projects an NIMH-funded implementation-focused trial of Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in Kenya, with TF-CBT delivered by lay counselors in schools and in the community; a World Health Organization funded study assessing lay counselor skills in mental health therapy, and a Washington State-funded evidence-based training initiative in community mental health. The coordinator will be embedded in all projects and will have opportunities to co-author manuscripts and posters in line with their interests.

Distinguishing Characteristics:  The research coordinator will support research activities under the direction of the lab Director, graduate Research Assistants, and Kenya-based personnel. In this role, the coordinator is expected to support data collection activities, assist in copy editing, use study timeline tracking tools, coordinate with fiscal purchasing and staff, and support graduate student Research Assistants in their research activities.

Typical Work:  The research coordinator will collaborate with investigators in two universities and with staff in non-governmental organizations in Kenya and other countries. The research coordinator must be able to communicate and manage their time effectively. Due to time differences in global work, early morning or evening conference calls are required. The coordinator must also be able to provide oversight and mentorship for undergraduates involved in data entry and other lab support tasks (e.g., literature searches, reference section preparation).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Collection and Data Collection Support

  • Assist with qualtrics survey creation
  • Edit/prepare paper-based surveys
  • Track data collection progress
  • Perform other related duties as required to keep the studies moving forward and on track
  • Provide oversight for the lab’s Research Study Assistant/s
  • Provide oversight for undergraduates involved in data entry

    Data Management Support
  • Assist statisticians with data codebook development
  • Perform data cleaning tasks under the supervision of statisticians or graduate students
  • Perform basic data analysis tasks under the supervision of statisticians or graduate students

    Assistance with Study Protocol Development
  • Maintain adherence to research protocols and verify accuracy of research study data
  • Provide assistance with developing study materials
  • Contribute to data management strategies and build study data management tools
  • Perform data quality audits and provide weekly data reports

    Administrative and operations
  • Facilitate purchasing and procurement
  • Provide logistical support for travel and study meetings as needed
  • Support travel and budget reimbursement processes
  • Provide support for the lab PI

    Research Dissemination Support
  • Conduct literature searches
  • Assist with editing manuscripts and presentations
  • Prepare reference sections using reference software

    REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Excellent judgement and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to participate in a minimum of once per week early morning or late evening conference calls
  • Willingness to work independently

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a /certification/registration.

    DESIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field
  • Experience with SPSS, Qualtrics, MS Office, and Mendeley
  • Experience with qualitative research collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of implementation and dissemination science research
  • Knowledge of global mental health research
  • Experience in cultural adaptations to evidence-based treatments in health
  • Experience living outside of the United States
  • Experience with providing some oversight of volunteers and/or undergraduates involved in research
  • Undergraduate experience in global health, advanced statistics, and/or developmental psychology
