Summer Scholar Counselor at Children’s Mercy

Children’s Mercy (located in the Kansas City metro area) announces summer scholar Counselor (typically undergraduate students) and Lead (typically graduate students) Counselor positions for our Summer Treatment Program (STP). The STP is an award winning, evidence-based program for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) developed by William Pelham, Ph.D. and associates. The STP has been listed in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. The Children’s Mercy STP is directed by Children’s Mercy ADHD Specialty Clinic Director of Psychological Services, Carla Counts Allan, Ph.D., and co-directed by Children’s Mercy Psychologists, Trista Perez Crawford, Ph.D. and Simone Sherman Moody, Ph.D.
Counselors and Lead Counselors will receive approximately 360 hours of face-to-face clinical experience working with children with ADHD and related behavior problems. Counselors are assigned to groups of 10-15 children, with 4-5 counselors per group. Counselors implement behavior modification procedures for sports, social skills training, art, and academic activities. Counselors will provide feedback to children and parents and record behavioral data for children in their groups. They also receive daily performance feedback from experienced staff members who provide live supervision. There will be one Lead Counselor for each group. Lead Counselors will participate in counselor responsibilities in addition to overseeing the duties of the counselors in their group.
Activities take place outdoors and counselors will be involved in recreational activities throughout the day; this requires knowledge of rules/fundamentals of represented sports. Counselors will serve as Sport Leaders and will plan and implement skill drills to improve children’s performance. Previous experience in sports participation, refereeing, or coaching children is preferred.
Counselors must be available to work from May 25, 2017 through July 28, 2017. The beginning of employment will include a multi-day training session. Hired counselors will be responsible for reading the STP manual and being familiar with its contents prior to beginning employment.
Counselor hours of employment are from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Counselors also work until 8:30 PM one evening/week while parents participate in weekly parent training groups. Counselors and lead counselors are paid an hourly wage with overtime benefits commensurate with their experience and position requirements.
Undergraduate and graduate level students interested in Clinical Psychology or Pediatrics are encouraged to apply. Experience gained at the STP may also be beneficial in preparation for careers in education, mental health, physical education, psychiatry, recreational therapy, behavior analysis, social work, and counseling and can serve as an opportunity to obtain a recommendation for work or graduate school. The Language Learning Lab at Boston College (L3@BC) opened in January of 2016. Our research sits at the intersection between linguistics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and psychology. Our strategy is to leverage new and emerging technologies to address previously unanswerable scientific questions. Methodologically, the lab uses a number of well-established methods, such as judgment studies, eye-tracking, and ERPs. However, we are particularly interested in exploring and exploiting new and emerging methods. One such method is testing tens or even hundreds of thousands of children and adults over the Internet, and in doing so being able to study questions that were previously out of reach.
- Hands-on experience running studies with children of varying ages
- Running studies in a variety of settings, including the lab, museums and schools
- Opportunities to directly contribute to ongoing studies through study design and participant recruitment and management

The Vilardaga Lab in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Duke’s Center for Addiction Science Technology (CfAST) is looking to hire a full-time Clinical Research Specialist (CRS) to work on a research study evaluating the feasibility and usability of smoking cessation smartphone apps for those with serious mental illness.
JOB PURPOSE: The CRS is responsible for conducting study procedures in human subjects in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and assisting other research members to meet study goals.

DESCRIPTION: The lab’s core vision is expanding the effectiveness and reach of behavioral health for those in most need by creating meaningful technologies for behavior change. The work sits at the intersection of several content areas, primarily mindfulness and acceptance-based behavior change interventions, mental health and addiction. To address those content areas, the lab applies a range of methods, including user-centered design of mHealth interventions, single case design methods and clinical trials methodology.
At present, the lab’s primary research project is the ‘Quit on the Go’ Trial which is currently evaluating two smoking cessation apps, Learn to Quit and NCI QuitGuide, in an expected sample of 90 subjects with serious mental illness (schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar, and recurring depressive disorders). Over the course of 4-months, enrolled subjects use each assigned app, receive Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), technical coaching and attend follow-up appointments. Data collection comes from different sources, including diagnostic assessments, biometrics, self-report surveys, Google Analytics and User Experience (UX) interviews.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• (35%) Participant Management - Recruitment, screening, participant tracking, phone calls, scheduling appointments, dispensing and recording compensation, provider and clinic outreach
• (35%) Study Activities - Consenting, administering psychometric (psychiatric diagnosis, cognitive functioning, psychological functioning, mental status exam) and biometric (CO, urine pregnancy test) assessments, phone and app orientation and set-up, conducting qualitative interviews and coaching sessions (in-person and phone calls), administering study drug/smoking cessation products, monitoring and documenting adverse events
• (15%) Data Management – Entering and managing participant information in Microsoft Access, entering data into REDCap, recording and storing audio from interviews/coaching sessions, assist transcribing interviews and conducting thematic analysis from interviews

The Bergelson Lab at Duke, an NIH and NEH funded lab in Duke's Psychology & Neuroscience department, is looking to hire an excited, competent, and detail-oriented recent graduate to be an active member of our research team as lab manager. The lab's focus is on language development, and in particular, on how word learning interfaces with other levels of linguistic representation, and other dimensions of cognitive and social development. We are part of Duke CHILD Studies.
The lab manager position entails working with families, infants, and toddlers, and a team of researchers from the undergraduate to postdoctoral level.
The lab manager's duties will include:
* managing a team of RAs in various annotation-related tasks for the home recordings in the SEEDLingS Corpus,
* scheduling and running in-lab eyetracking and discrimination experiments with infants and adults,
* data processing, coding, and analysis,
* vocabulary assessment and other cognitive development measures,
* miscellaneous aspects of project and lab upkeep.
This would be an excellent position for someone looking for research experience with infants and families, in visual, environmental, social, and linguistic aspects of cognitive development.

The Research Assistant will work on experimental behavioral research projects for faculty and PhD students at the Kellogg School of Management. The position’s responsibilities will include recruiting subjects and running experiments for a number of new and ongoing projects, and experiments might take place in either a laboratory or an online setting.
Candidates should have an interest in applying for a Ph.D. program in one of the social sciences and pursuing an academic research career. The ideal candidate will have: (i) a strong interest in social psychology or a similar discipline; (ii) experience working with the software tools commonly used in psychology experiments; (iii) past experience with research, including independent work (such as an undergrad thesis) or work as a research assistant.
Potential research duties vary, but may include assisting in experimental design, programming surveys, testing experiments prior to deployment, scheduling and running studies, analyzing experimental results, creating/modifying IRB proposals, and/or editing manuscripts.
Candidates should have completed at least bachelor’s degree by the employment start date. The selected candidate will be offered a one-year appointment, with the ability to renew for one year based on performance.

Research Project Management
- Creates or modifies IRB proposals.
- Schedules studies and recruits subjects for studies.

Experimental Design and Analysis

A full-time research coordinator (lab manager) is sought for the labs of Dr. Stephen LaConte, Dr. Pearl Chiu, and Dr. Brooks King-Casas, at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (http://research.vtc.vt.edu) in Roanoke, Virginia. Research in the labs is devoted to advanced neuroimaging acquisition and data analysis approaches, aimed at basic scientific discovery as well as understanding and rehabilitating neurological and psychiatric diseases. The projects include methods from experimental and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics in healthy and clinical populations (including adults with brain injury, children with neurological dysfunction, mood/anxiety/substance disorders, and at-risk youth). The position may also occasionally require biological sample collection and/or image acquisition in animal populations. The coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and screening research participants and running fMRI scans (and other imaging modalities such a EEG), additional duties include managing subject databases, organizing project funds, and preparing IRB protocols. The research assistant is an essential member of the group and will be generally responsible for having overall knowledge of research in the labs and managing the day-to-day logistics of ongoing projects. Training will be provided for all aspects of the position. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in graduate school in clinical or cognitive psychology, neuroscience, or healthcare. The Community Psychiatry Program for Research in Implementation and Dissemination of Evidence-Based Treatments (Community Psychiatry PRIDE) at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) / Harvard Medical School is accepting applications for a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator I position. Community Psychiatry PRIDE is a dissemination and implementation psychiatry research center that focuses on reducing disparities in mental health in the communities across Massachusetts (PI and Director: Luana Marques, PhD). The overarching mission of Community Psychiatry PRIDE is to bridge the gap between science and practice by bringing evidence-based treatments (EBTs) to communities. The Learning to Talk Lab seeks an energetic, detail-‐oriented, highly organized and innovative individual to support the UMD Toggle Talk Project. This is a 4-‐year project funded by the Institute of Education Sciences of the Department of Education. This is a one-‐year position with the possibility of renewal dependent upon performance. Researchers in the Learning to Talk Lab at UMD are partnering with the Baltimore City Public Schools to study the efficacy of Toggle Talk, a language arts curriculum supplement. Toggle Talk provides young children with vocabulary and language structure awareness to become comfortable in switching between their home/informal language and classroom/formal language. Toggle Talk has been shown to improve standardized reading scores in pilot studies.
Research Associate Responsibilities
The UMD Toggle Talk project is seeking a full-‐time research associate to be involved in many aspects of the project, including testing students in Baltimore City elementary school and supervising undergraduate and graduate student examiners. The research associate will also be involved in planning and executing recruitment events, preparing materials for schools and parents, and scheduling student assessments and teacher observations. The position also involves maintaining a calendar and interacting with teachers and other school staff. The position empowers the individual to develop a strong portfolio of experience in working with children in the schools, educational research, community outreach, mentorship, and leadership.
The project requires an individual who is able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects and timelines. This individual should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Research Assistant (Fixed Term)
We seek to appoint a Research Assistant (full-time) to work within the Centre for Research on Play in Education, Development and Learning (PEDaL) in the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. The position is funded by the LEGO Foundation to provide research support for a project to develop and empirically evaluate play-based approaches to teaching science in early childhood classrooms.
Primary activities include assistance in:
- recruiting teachers and children to participate in the project;
- assessing classroom practice in Reception and Year 1 in a variety of schools;
- developing and administering tests of children's oblem-solving, help-seeking, executive function, and scientific reasoning.
The successful applicant will work as part of a team of researchers led by Dr Sara Baker and Dr Audrey Kittredge, and so will receive support and training. We seek candidates with experience working with developmental populations. Experience working in a preschool classroom is preferred but not required. As both involve testing at various locations, access to transportation is essential (standard gas mileage is reimbursed).
Project Coordinator: This person will manage recruiting and scheduling for the project. This involves educating preschool directors, teachers, and parents as to the objectives of the project, scheduling and conducting testing sessions in the preschools, and helping manage data. We will provide career development for this person according to their career goals, but this may include training in research methods and statistics and the opportunity to present and publish on the projects.
The Sleep Lab @ UMass has a new 3-bedroom sleep lab in the Institute of Applied Life Sciences for in-lab studies. We combine techniques including polysomnography (EEG, EOG, and EMG) and actigraphy to measure sleep and use an array of behavioral probes in populations from children to older adults. UMass is located in the beautiful Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts.
