Combined lecture/lab course on the event-related potential (ERP) method and its use in cognitive neuroscience. ERPs, which are electrical brain waves triggered by sensory and cognitive events, provide a powerful means to noninvasively study the timing and sequence of the neural activity underlying cognitive processes in humans. The course covers how ERPs are generated, recorded, and analyzed, and how they are used to study cognitive processes. Students gain substantial hands-on experience in the context of performing a group cognitive neuroscience experiment. Recommended: previous courses in neuroscience/psychology, proficiency with computers, sophomore or higher status.
