This course examines theory and research related to affect regulation, cognition and behaviorism to consider psychological antecedents or determinants of sport and exercise participation and psychological outcomes of sport and exercise participation. Key topics will include personality, motivation, goal-setting, self efficacy, self determination, stress, team dynamics, leadership and communication, imagery, and the psychological consequences of injury, burnout and athlete transition or retirement. Learning activities will emphasize reflective analysis where concepts from class will be applied to hypothetical case studies, real athletes and exercisers, and community level sport and exercise programs.
