Occupational Summary

Coordinate and perform a variety of administrative and technical activities related to preparation, stocking and management of Neuroscience undergraduate teaching laboratory.

Work Performed

Create and maintain a technical laboratory manual for temporary instructors, teaching assistants and lab preparatory in designated introductory lab courses to provide guidelines for conducting lab exercises, documentation of practical experience, history of technical problems and references to known solutions.

Assist P&N and neuroscience other faculty members with conducting class demonstrations in the teaching laboratory.

Analyze classroom and lab needs; Assist P&N and neuroscience faculty members with developing training modules and hands-on learning exercises to support their courses. 

Organize, Order, maintain, and update equipment, computer hardware, software, and consumable supplies as needed.

Provide regularly scheduled data backups to a data server.

Maintain a schedule of operations and assist the Directors of Undergraduate Studies in Psychology and Neuroscience to schedule and administer class demos in the facility.

Run demonstrations of the laboratory for public outreach events.

Provide the raw data and data summaries of demonstrations to faculty and students using data spreadsheets and graphical software.

Ensure compliance of the laboratory facility with all relevant institutional regulations regarding laboratory safety and environmental management.

Assist faculty in preparation of budget projections and recommendations.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of laboratory exercises, techniques and procedures generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or a directly related field.

Experience

Work requires 5 years of laboratory and/or management experience to acquire skills necessary to develop and implement biological laboratory exercises, supervise and instruct teaching assistants, students and lab personnel, and manage overall operations of the laboratory.
