Lab Research Coordinator Position @ Michigan State University

The Lingo Lab at Michigan State University (directed by Courtney E. Venker, Ph.D., CCC-SLP) is hiring a full-time Research Coordinator. This person will play an integral role in a new, NIH-funded study on language processing and word learning in young children on the autism spectrum. They will have frequent interactions with a wonderful group of curious, committed, and supportive people, including students, researchers, and clinicians.
 

The position is ideal for a candidate who would like to gain experience in a research environment. This is a 1-year position with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities: The Research Coordinator will: 

  • Coordinate day-to-day lab operations 
  • Manage budget and purchase requests  
  • Recruit participants and schedule research visits  
  • Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate Research Assistants 
  • Develop and maintain study protocols 
  • Communicate with the Institutional Review Board 
  • Develop stimuli for experiments 
  • Assist with data collection and data entry  
  • Oversee eye-gaze coding and transcription 
  • Maintain lab website and newsletter 
  • Help promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and a culture of respect 

Essential Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders/Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, or a related field 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Impeccable attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently and seek consultation when needed 
  • Dependability, trustworthiness, and cultural humility 
  • Curiosity about research and evidence-based practice 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Prior research experience  
  • Experience working with children and families 
  • Web design, statistical analysis, and programming skills (e.g., in R)
