Participants is needed to participate in a research study exploring the effects of mindfulness on the brain.
Objective: To investigate the impact of mindfulness on brain function and well-being.
Duration: The in-person component of the study will span four weeks. The online portion will last eight weeks.
Compensation: Compensation is up to $185 total. Participants will receive a minimum of $85 for completing all study appointments and will be entered into a raffle (1 in 5 chance) for an additional $100 for their time and commitment to the study. All compensation is in the form of Amazon electronic gift cards.
Interventions: Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two four-week intervention groups (four 75-minute sessions each):
Data Collection: You will be asked questions about your levels of mindfulness, self-compassion, mind-wandering, and mood at three time-points over the course of one month. During the first and last week of each course, you will be asked to use an app to respond to five daily prompts (during the first and last week of the study) asking whether your mind was wandering and six total positive and negative moods.
Eligibility: Enrolled Undergraduate or Graduate Student at Duke, between 18-27 years old, minimal meditation experience.
Participation in this study is limited, and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
