Research Assistant @ American Institutes for Research (Chapel Hill)

We are seeking Research Assistants to join AIR’s Learning Supports program area. This position can be located out of any of the following AIR locations once offices are reopened: Crystal City, VA, Rockville, MD, Austin, TX, Chicago, IL, or Chapel Hill, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews to support projects and proposals

  • Assist staff in the review, identification and development of scholarly information describing research findings
  • Participate in the collection, analysis, and review of research and evaluation data
  • Develop spreadsheets and data bases to support project activities
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative research data and contribute to the reporting and interpretation of findings
  • Assist with the development and writing of new professional learning and implementation tools and resources
  • Support planning and implementation of national and/or project meetings and events
  • Provide managerial support on projects
  • Provide new business and proposal development support by engaging in such tasks as researching funding opportunities, conducting literature reviews, writing proposal sections, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, public health or other social science related fields

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of data collection and analysis methodologies and techniques, such as survey design, analysis of program administrative data, and conduct of structured interviews, observations, and focus groups
  • Experience with or inclination to learn and use statistical software programs such as R, SPSS, or Stata to analyze data – a plus (not required)
  • Experience working in schools or experience within an organization supporting technical assistance (TA) projects (e.g., coordinating large streams of work, collecting and analyzing data, developing resources)
  • Experience translating research into practice for diverse stakeholder audiences in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when writing
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software)
  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team
