The Mood and Cognition Program in the Department of Psychiatry at NYU Langone Health in New York, NY invites applications for a Research Data Associate (RDA) position. Our research involves clinical trials and investigations into the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, neurocognitive disorders, and mood disorders. The RDA will work on an experienced multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. The RDA will coordinate studies on schizophrenia, cognitive impairment, and depression, under the supervision of Drs. Matthew Hoptman and Dan Iosifescu. This is an excellent opportunity for obtaining research and clinical experience prior to applying for graduate or medical school. Neuroimaging opportunities involve learning about functional MRI using state-of-the-art acquisition and processing techniques. Our lab fosters a collaborative environment where research assistants have the opportunity to gain excellent clinical and research experience, with the potential for publication. 

 The Research Data Associate will be primarily responsible for providing support for studies focusing on mood disorders (major depressive disorder, MDD) and schizophrenia. Of particular research interest to the program are issues related to suicidal ideation and behavior and impulsivity, as well as treatment resistant depression and device-based treatments for MDD and for cognitive problems. 

Responsibilities 

  • Administer advertisement campaigns to recruit specific populations for research studies. 
  • Screen participants for active studies. 
  • Act as the primary liaison for patients enrolled in studies, coordinating study visits. 
  • Administer research assessments (questionnaires, clinical interviews, cognitive tasks). 
  • Collect behavioral and magnetic resonance imaging data, often utilizing computer-based experimental tasks. 
  • Observe and assist with treatment groups, as necessary for ongoing treatment studies; trained to administer multiple device-based treatment methods for study participants. 
  • Assist participants during laboratory tests, including vital signs, electrocardiogram, urine toxicology, and phlebotomy (candidate need not be certified in these procedures as they will have the opportunity to be certified through the internal program). 
  • Data management including data entry, reviewing data for completeness and accuracy. 
  • Manage office resources (supplies, equipment, services); Manage patient charts and visit schedules. 
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, interacting with various institutional bodies to secure approval to conduct and to carefully monitor and record all study activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with partnered labs both within NYU Langone Health and external to NYU. 
  • Other technical and administrative support activities may be assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Two-year commitment required. 
  • • Associate's degree plus one-year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • • Bachelor's degree in science, psychology, public health, or related field preferred. 
  • • Clinical and/or research experience with psychiatric or medical populations is preferred. 
  • • Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills. 
  • • Attentive to detail and able to be flexible in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills. 
  • • Prior experience in a health care setting and/or research preferred. 
  • Competency in standard statistical analysis tools preferred.
