Departmental Overview

Innovations for Youth (i4Y) is a cross-disciplinary, innovative research hub addressing issues of youth well-being and equity through collaborative research, training and community engagement.

The Research Partnership Director is a senior leadership position serving as a key point person for community- engaged research projects led by Dr. Valerie Shapiro. The position is central to the development, launch, and overall management and oversight of a research center that generates knowledge and advances practice to promote well-being and equity in schools.

Responsibilities

  • Leads efforts to conduct highly complex analyses across a broad spectrum of programs, policies and initiatives or provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in education and community-engaged research.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and adjusts project master plans.
  • Co-authors reports to funders, including the state legislature.
  • Responsible for the development, launch, and overall management and oversight of a research center that generates knowledge and advances practice to promote well-being and equity in schools.
  • Develops and advocates solutions to organizational or research program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs.
  • Develops and manages a process for tracking contract terms, licenses, and project deliverables - including critical stipulations around data uses and intellectual property.
  • Project Management responsibilities include (a) developing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting project master plans, (b) manage a process for tracking contract terms, licenses, and deliverables - including critical stipulations around data uses and intellectual property, (c) developing and coordinating standing research-practice partnership teams, (d) oversee technical assistance provided to practice partners.
  • Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups.
  • Develops and coordinates standing research-practice partnership teams (e.g., all 58 county offices of education) that engage practice-side and research-side partners in solving problems of practice and advancing the field.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the function, research initiative, program and/or organizational unit.
  • Supports the development of funding proposals.
  • Researches and summarizes best practices in field.
  • Creates, modifies, and tracks team IRB Protocols.
  • Co-produces scholarship on the infrastructure associated with community-engaged scholarship and knowledge mobilization to advance practice.
  • Provide oversight for the transmission and storage of data.
  • Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes.
  • Supervises a team including research coordinators and student researchers, and manages subcontractors.
  • Participate, as requested, in recruitment, selection, and hiring of personnel.
  • Creates orientation materials for new employees and subcontractors and develops team policies and on and off boarding procedures.
  • Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization.
  • Oversees event management.
  • Develops and coordinates policy or program communications; Directs press releases, website, digital media, and internal communications.
  • Provides analyses for complex budget, funding, financial, or academic data, systems and resource projects working directly with internal and external constituents.
  • Supports fiscal projections, expenditure reviews, and reporting on total budgets exceeding 5m.
  • Makes high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with or persuade officials to adopt the proposed solution or program/process recommendations.
  • Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and/or external constituencies.
  • Develops and presents complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options.
  • Oversee technical assistance provided to practice partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 1yr, full-time (40 hours/week), contract appointment, eligible for UC benefits with the possibility of extension with continued funding. This is a monthly paid, exempt position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $85,800.00 - $ 151,400.00.
