Research Programmer Position @ Virginia Tech

Applications are invited for a full-time research programmer in the labs of Dr. Pearl Chiu and Dr. Brooks King-Casas at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion (http://research.vtc.vt.edu) in Roanoke, Virginia. Projects in the labs are highly interdisciplinary and focus on the functional neuroscience of decision-making, in teenage and adult participants, including individuals with major depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. This position provides an excellent opportunity to apply and gain skills in database design and management, web study development, experimental design and implementation, managing and cleaning neuroimaging and behavioral data, writing user documentation, and or cognitive / social neuroscience as either a long-term position or in preparation for graduate school. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others and being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment.

The research programmer will play a critical role in research support including: database development and management, programming of behavioral experiments, web form development and implementation, quality assurance, and data processing. We invite applications from individuals with field experience and from highly self-directed, conscientious, and talented junior developers with little to no field experience.

Required Qualifications:

Two years of application development experience. Familiarity with web programming languages and paradigms (including JavaScript, HTML, PHP, SQL) highly desired. Proficiencies with UNIX, Bash, Python, R, or Matlab are a plus. The ability to multi-task effectively and attention to detail are a must.
