Summer Program @ The Clark-Hill Institute of Virginia Commonwealth University

The Clark-Hill Institute (CHI) of Positive Youth Development is now accepting applications for the 2022 Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Community-Based Methods at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)!

This 10-week program is geared toward developing community engagement skills among early undergraduate students who are finishing their freshman or sophomore years. Applications will be considered from students who are finishing their junior year.

CHI Summer Undergraduate Scholars will complete a full-time internship working with research labs who are engaged in community-based research. Scholars will present at an end-of-summer celebration event and have the chance to submit their work to present at a national conference. The CHI Summer Undergraduate Research Program will be completed in-person in Richmond, Virginia. All scholars will be provided with housing and a meal stipend, reimbursement for travel to VCU, and will be awarded a stipend for their participation. VCU students are eligible to apply.

CHI Summer Undergraduate Scholars will also:

●       Receive mentorship from a CHI Faculty Member and a CHI Graduate Student

●       Learn basic skills in using community-based research skills (e.g., working with community advisory boards, recruiting community members for research, collecting and analyzing community-based data, giving presentations to community members)

●       Participate in professional development workshop on community engagement, community activism, and research

●       Take trips and engage in activities to learn about historical and contemporary issues of Black and Brown communities in Richmond, Virginia
