Advanced Cultural Psychology: Culture in the Mind, Brain and Behavior
This course reviews the field on cultural psychology in four parts. First, we discuss different theoretical perspectives, including a historical background and cross-cultural methodologies. Second, we examine cultural variations in mentality, focusing on several substantive domains (e.g., self, cognition, emotion, and motivation). Third, we explore biological foundations of culture and, fourth, we look closely into varieties of culture including religion, honor, and social class. The course will provide an overview of cultural psychology with a focus on recent developments in neuroscience and cultural differences between non-Western cultures.
