Grants and Contracts Administrator Stella Powell-Williams celebrated 30 years as a Duke employee this month. Powell-Williams, who was born and raised in Durham, came to work for Duke after her daughter was born. “I wanted to work part-time for a while so I left my job at RTI and started working through a temp agency – and ended up at Duke.” Powell-Williams has worked at P&N, specifically, since September 2007, and she greatly enjoys the benefits and flexibility of her position.
“I consider myself a people person, one who can get along with mostly anybody and don’t mind helping or lending a hand if needed. I can be a comedian sometimes and I love to make people smile and laugh. I can honestly say that I love my job, co-workers, and the faculty!”
In her free time, Powell-Williams enjoys traveling and bowling, and she looks forward to retirement so she can travel even more. When asked how many grandchildren she has, Powell-Williams replied, “Too many!” She is the mother of three, the grandmother of five, and the great-grandmother of one.
Powell-Williams’ tenure at Duke was recognized at a staff appreciation lunch on September 5th where she was presented with a 30-year certificate to mark the achievement.
